An Inspired Deck Design with 3 Season Room Concept

deck design with 3 season room

Some homes are just crying out for that perfect deck design.  This deck design featuring a 3 season room concept design looks like it was always there. We strive to design what should have been there in the first place.

In this case, we adopted roof details that repeated in the existing home within the deck and 3 season room design. Keeping things simple go a long way towards controlling a budget.

This walkout basement nestles the deck area with a sloping grade and an existing stone/wood retaining system. The area dictates that a decking with grain should be used. The deck support system and rails match the window and trim color of the existing home.

Glass rails help maintain the view and ambient light from within the home.

Do you need an Architect for Deck Design?

Architects will tell you that their job starts at the front door and ends at the back door.

You don’t have to settle for amateurish design when it comes to decks and hardscapes- we’re here to help. We have been designing features for homes and commercial properties for about 30 years now. We kept it a secret for a long time. As our portfolio grew on our original site Garden Structure .com we created this site to showcase our deck builders and deck design prowess.

Get in touch when you are ready to design your dream deck or 3 season room. We build in the Southern Ontario and Muskoka Region as well. We can design your 3 season rooms and decks in Canada and the US.

Where do you Learn Deck Design Secrets?

Unfortunately, there really is no course that teaches you to deck design. I am sure if you study Architecture, you will learn a little about designing decks. I have heard that landscape architecture students learn about outdoor structures and deck planning for a couple of weeks. Is that enough time? Designing a 3 season room concept is pretty obviously Architecture.

We learned how to design decks by working with Architects, Engineers and Designers on decks. We gleaned what we needed from these professionals but most of our design sensibilities came from actually building and working directly with customers planning their decks for about 30 years.

One of the most important differences has to do with designing to a budget. Since we are also builders, we know our numbers. There is nothing worse than designing a deck only to find out that they never built it because they couldn’t afford it. One of the first questions we have for clients is “What is your ideal budget range?” Once we have that pinned down, we design decks to fit that window.

3 Season Room Concept Design Basics

Size is the most important thing to consider when designing a 3 season room concept. What will you do within that space and how big should your 3 season room be? A general guideline is that 12′ x 12′ is the minimum size if you want a sectional set or a table in the room. Space to walk around the furniture is critical to utilizing the space.

Light should be your next consideration and how will the 3 season room addition affect ambient light within the home? Which direction does the room face? Inspired design can help address all these issues.

Finishes and Style can affect how the addition blends with the home. Sometimes it is suitable to make it an obvious feature or a starkly different part of the home. This all comes down to the taste and sense of style of the homeowners. We like to show them a couple of options in the concept process whenever we design a 3 season room concept.
