The owners of this country property near Wasaga Beach have had a small platform deck for a couple of decades. They finally decided to create a comprehensive outdoor living space featuring a big deck. A gracious living space with another area for dining and minimal maintenance was on the wish list.

Deck Size has to be adequate for expected use. This one features a dining room with grill area, a den, a spa platform and a breakfast/coffee nook off the bedroom facing south. All the decks installed aside from the nook are larger than 12 x 12′ with exception of the nook.
Privacy is important when homes are within site lines of other houses and decks. We suggested the frosted privacy screen to break the wind from the west in the grill area and den. Privacy screens are not just for privacy- they can also calm the breezy spots and create a cozier space. We also utilized frosted panels towards the neighbor’s house, so that the customers were no longer on display. The frosted wind walls also obscure the view into the terrace doors leading to the bedroom. Here in Wasaga Beach we can extend the season a month or so by slowing down the wind.
Shade is important mid summer. Sometimes, when budget allows we design in pergolas or roofs to offer respite from the sun. In this case, budget didn’t allow it so they opted for umbrellas. They found it was perfectly suitable. Larger 12′ umbrellas offer shade in the dining and den areas of the installed decks.
